Salvaging my Reagan piece for submission to Moth Radio.

Translation: My last computer? Dell. The hard drive crashed I swear to the day of its 3 yr. warranty expiration—crashed to all even genius and/or cosmic unavailability (I was told). The crashing is not my fault. That I had not, in 3 yrs., plugged in an external hard drive for back-up purposes? I have no one to blame but myself (but I do so dislike Dell in any case).

In the crash, I lost valuables, like my Reagan piece: One winner in a Santa Barbara Independent essay contest, Januaray, 2008, featured in the January, 2008, issue of SBI. This inclusion is important to me—Santa Barbara is my hometown, my place of refuge via mind-tweaking beaches, future site of my family’s permanent residence. SB is my home.

I lost writings with the crash. However, I found the pertinent issue of SBI in a plastic container under our bed, and am typing the article into my new Toshiba laptop’s computer’s edition of Word that saves everything with an X. I know there’s an easier way to transfer information, but: I’m too tired to hunt for it (see my other blog).

I am typing my little Reagan piece from the printed page into Word.

It’s 10:44 p.m. I had a playdate and strollering-of-love-cup walk in mild (for these parts, in summer) utterly taxing heat. Cats did their gakking thing after my husband left the house for work. I have scrubbed and disinfected, I have played hard, I have cooked, I have sung lullabies and I have loved. And, written.

Look! I write within the covers of my bed!!! (who said that?)
